Sloan Healthcare Innovations Prize

The Sloan Healthcare Innovations Prize (SHIP) is a pitch competition open to student entrepreneurs innovating in the healthcare space.  Previous winners include Theraoptix (2018) and Rendever (2017). The mission of SHIP is to support early stage healthcare start-ups by providing feedback from experienced industry professionals, workshops to help launch your business, and a chance to compete for over $20,000 in prize money.

The finals will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2019 in MIT Sloan’s Wong Auditorium.  The finals are open to the public and admission is free.  This event will also feature a keynote speech by Dr. Liz Kwo, who is a serial entrepreneur, practicing physician, instructor at Harvard Medical School, and board member at several healthcare and biotechnology start-ups.

A: Your team may use at most three PowerPoint slides to illustrate your idea.  However, you are not required to use slides – this is up to your team.

Q: How big can my start-up team be?
A: Most teams have one or two members who pitch the idea, but we have had teams with up to five members pitch in past years.  If this is an issue for your team, please get in touch with us directly at shbc_pitch@mit.edu

Q: Who gets to participate in the workshops?
A: Finalists have the opportunity to participate in the workshops.  This is a great opportunity to develop your pitch!  The workshops will be held the week of February 13th, with additional details forthcoming.

Q: What sort of networking opportunities will there be at the event?
A: Finalists are invited to a VIP reception at the Samberg Center in building E52 on MIT Sloan’s campus before the pitch competition to mingle with VIP conference attendees, speakers and other industry professionals.
